Over the past few years I have made a disturbing observation that both frustrates me and fuels me. I encounter countless employees, at their place of business, that act as if they were awakened at gunpoint to come to the job that they applied for. This spans amongst all professions; doctors/nurses, retail, check-out clerks, etc. As an employee, how many of your co-workers begin the day with a sigh and grunt as if they would prefer to be anywhere else than the only place that is paying them to be there. Of course, this is not for every employee or co-worker… anytime you say “All” or “Every”, you’re wrong; but the majority can be draining.
There are a plethora of reasons why you as an employee or your employees arrive to this point: lack of interest, lack of growth opportunity, perhaps they grew and the job did not, life issues, poor management, and so many more. Can you remember a time when an employee provided you with excellent service, a smile, connected with you, and made your day? You walked away impressed with them as a person and their abilities; to the point you spoke with their supervisor about how good they were and your experience! That could be you today!
The truth is… you applied for the job you are at. No one barged into your home this morning, woke you at gunpoint to go to work, and forced you to do the job you so actively searched for, completed applications/resumes, interviewed for, and get paid from. Abraham Lincoln said it best, “Whatever you are, be a good one”. So today, be a “Good One”! If your current employment is no longer for you… that’s ok and an opportunity! Today, start the search and journey for your passion. What’s your dream? When your passion becomes your job and your job your passion… it’s hard to tell the difference between work and play…and life gets great!
