Loyalty is a Two-Way Street

Loyalty is a powerful word and defined in the dictionary a strong feeling of support and allegiance. What does loyalty mean to you? Are you usually the one asking people to remain loyal? Or, are you usually struggling to remain loyal? Once committed to an endeavor, team, or person… loyalty is a platinum quality along with trust, honesty, and you can fill in the blank with other qualities important to you. However, I struggled with the word loyalty, because it’s typically portrayed as a one-person concept; as if being loyal to someone or something is only your job. Perhaps it’s a two-way street?

I played football for years and as a professional athlete, you quickly understand that it’s a business! If you decide to leave a team, you can be deemed unloyal, but a team can trade you or cut you at any time. Your job can transfer you or force you into early retirement. In relationships, business and personal, it’s a two-way street to create an environment in which both parties want to stay and produce. This comes from developing a sense of two-way understanding, providing for reasonable wants and needs, being aware of and a having a willingness to assist in dream fulfillment, and allowing for change; with a focus on growth. This two-way street of loyalty allows each person to grow, change, EVOLVE, and win together.

We all want loyalty, it’s want makes you feel special and wanted. However, it takes two to make loyalty work. Be loyal to your dreams and follow them to your definition of success… respectful and honorable to others and anything you’ve committed to.
