It can be easy to make this world all about us. Since you started school, you have focused on making the grade, earning a life, being your version of successful, and living a good life. It becomes easy to live your life with blinders on; keeping you steady and in your lane. But life has to be about more than that in order to EVOLVE and live your best life.
The ability to paying attention, is either what helped you or hurt you in regards to passing that class, graduating to the next phase in life, earning that promotion, etc. Paying attention will also allow you to EVOLVE as an individual, partner, parent, professional, brother/sister, etc. Pay attention to those close to you and those you spend the most time with. What are they saying? What to the mean? What do they want or need? Why? This allows for connection as well as the ability to make an impact! Pay attention to what your wife or husband is saying and needs. Pay attention to your co-workers, as they are living a life and going through things you can’t imagine, both positively and negatively. Pay attention and congratulate, console, admire, and make a difference in their day… this is what they will remember you for.
What happens when you stop paying attention to your partner? Your son or daughter? Your friends? Nothing good! Lastly, pay attention to yourself. It sounds noble to demote yourself and voluntarily place yourself last on the depth chart; placing everyone else’s needs and wants before yours. The truth is… it’s a quick or long road to bitterness, resentment, dissatisfaction, and despair. You are important and cannot fully care for others if your tank is always empty. Pay attention or pay the consequences. Who or what do you need to pay more attention to in your life?
