You Evolving Now Blog – Stop Thinking and Start Knowing!

“Thinking”, a great word and powerful verb! Thinking allows YOU to grow, explore, become, and understand. However, at times, statements beginning with, “I think…” can be the most unimpressive statements ever. Of course, “I think” implies you have put some effort into your thought, have an opinion, and obviously willing to share, but it does not imply that you are sure, that you know, or provide an air of confidence.

Your language will be a huge part of your success. Anyone can have an opinion, but not everyone knows… make yourself valuable and indispensable. I once had a co-worker that made a significant impact in my life, my business, and my lifestyle. She always had an answer to my question (an answer I should have known). We were extreme opposites, did not see eye to eye… but she always had the answer! After a while, I became frustrated that I didn’t have the answer, always had to seek it, and questioned how and why she knew as much as she did. Through observation, I recognized a book she always carried with her and inquired about it. In the book… was all important information, answers to question she previously asked, contact information, processes, etc. By being attentive, curious, and proactive… she made sure she had the answers… making it easier of herself, her co-workers, and the company. I later adopted her method and have been better off ever since… and you can too!

Here are two ways to EVOLVE your “I think”. Whether at your job or in your home… keep a book of answers: Your user log in names and passwords, credit card numbers, back up phone list, etc… anything that makes your life easier and saves you time because you know. At work… EVOLVE and ask a question once… write the answer and the process down in your book so you never have to ask again… bosses love that! They love not having to repeat themselves and seeing an employee with ambition. As a boss… write down what your employees share with you… it makes them feel valued, understood, and you appear action-oriented!

Secondly, transform your “I think” language. When asked a question and you respond, “I think…”, It sounds as if you just thought about it and are offering a stumbled thought. Instead try… “I’ve been thinking about this and what I understand is…” It helps more if you actually have been thinking about it, made some observations, talked with others impacted, and understand the positives and negatives of the process involved (what’s working and not working). This statement implies intent, the ability to see all sides, understanding, and solution-focused thinking… not your sudden opinion that may come across as one-sided. Thinking is great… knowing is better. Anyone can think, not everyone can know. Enjoy your evolution and share your thoughts at www.facebook.com/menevolvingnow/  Happy EVOLVING!!!
