I am an avid sports fan and love the intensity and passion of sports and competition. So many of fans are raptured by game day… the big game, the preparation, and the finality of a clear cut victor. As I EVOLVE, it becomes increasingly admirable the effort it takes to build a team, manage it, keep it together, and remain successful over long periods of time. MVP’s are named every season, but there’s rarely talk of the Owner and General Manages that make the day-to-day decisions to cut players, acquire players, and establish a winning culture. This… along with players, is what makes a championship! What if you applied this to your life and not just a game?
You are the Owner and General Manager of your life and team. Are you living with intention and making decisions for yourself and team to have a championship life?? Many of our friends are our friends simply because they have been our friends ever since we can remember. I am not suggesting ending the relationships, but I am suggesting you take a look, evaluate, adjust, and ask yourself who you may need to reduce time with, add to your circle, or potentially cut from your team. It is argued that you are the sum of the five people you spend the most time with. Who is your five and why?
The benefits to being the General Manager of your life are immeasurable. You become the boss, rid yourself of blaming others, and can add value and upgrades where needed. It’s important to have friends from all backgrounds. We all need a night out with friends to have fun, cut loose, and be ourselves. However, there are mainstays I find necessary when selecting new friends, acquaintances, and business partners: are they positive, uplifting, motivated, active learners, and builders of their own lives. When I was younger, after a night out with friends, I’d come home relieved. Nowadays, I come home better! What do you like about your circle of friends, acquaintances, co-workers? What type of people would you like to add? What needs to change?
