M&W Blog – Learn, Unlearn, Learn!

Since we were kids, education has been stressed to us. We need it to survive, get a good job, and live a good life. There are some positives and true points to this argument, but many have been successful in forging their own path outside of these traditional lines. I believe true success occurs when we are capable, willing, and dedicated to learning, unlearning, and learning again in all settings, academically, relationally, and professionally.

During my days as a football player, I had a wonderful opportunity to learn this lesson. In youth football and sports, usually the fastest or bigger kids stand out quite easily; looking like superstars playing with little children. As time passes and others mature and catch up physically… there must be more than just physical talent. Those who rely solely on their external gifts may go far, but at some point will hit the wall and fail to reach their full potential. At some point and some level of the game… everyone is fast, everyone is big, and everyone wants to win! The golden ticket to success is the ability to learn and apply quickly, unlearn from week to week, and learn again making as few mistakes as possible; allowing you to play fast, enjoy the game, and have fun!

As this is true in sports, music, and however you may define success…. I realized How important this is within our relationships with our husbands/wives, boyfriends/girlfriends, parents, children, co-workers, etc. The willingness and ability to learn, unlearn, and learn allows us to EVOLVE and live our best lives and be our best selves. Learn about the people closest to you and whom you share space with daily. Learn the things that are important to them. Learn how to make an impact in the lives of others. Learn about ourselves and how to live our best lives in the various roles we play. Unlearning our preconceived notions, judgments, and bad habits. Finally, being capable and willing to relearn as things and our relationships change… and they will! What will you learn about your partner, kids, co-worker today; allowing evolution to take place in your life? Try using the M&W Quote/Question of the Day or my EVOLVE book for questions.
